Obituary of Thomas Elwood Bonine

Mr. Bonine was born in Hendricks County, Indiana, Jan. 15, 1836, and died in Madison County, Iowa, Oct. 15, 1909. When a small boy his parents moved to Keokuk County, Iowa, and when he was 15 years old the family came to Madison County where he has since resided.

He was married to Rebecca Smith in June, 1865, who passed from this life May 18th, 1879. Two children blessed this union. The youngest died in infancy and the other daughter, Mrs. Clara Gowin, died in November, 1907.

On April 24, 1884, he was again married to Mrs. Mary Simmons, who with four grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters remain to mourn his departure.

Mr. Bonine united with Fairview M. E. Church in 1880, when David Shenton was pastor on DeSoto charge. He has lived a faithful and consistent christian. In his last hours he looked up to a friend sitting by his bedside and said: " I am ready, and all is well."

The funeral was held in the Fairview church Monday Oct. 18th and Rev. A. E. Foutch preached from the Text, Rev. 1-18: “I am he that liveth and was dead; and, behold I am alive for evermore, Amen: and have the keys of hell and death.”

Note: Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
