December 1922Robert E. Cameron, son of James and Mary Cameron, of Holmesville, Holmes county, Ohio, was born Jan. 19, 1851 near Holmesville and departed this life at his home west of Winterset, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1922, aged 71 years and 11 months.
He joined the United Presbyterian church as a young man, continuing a staunch member and Christian until the end.
He was united in marriage to Miss Anna M. Findley of Millersbur, Ohio, on Jan. 9, 1879, who departed this life Dec. 27, 1880. He then came to Winterset in the fall of 1881, where he has since resided on the farm which he purchased at that time.
He was married to Miss Mary A. Hircock of Winterset on Oct. 24, 1883, who survives him. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters, one daughter dying in infancy. The surviving children are: J. Elmer of Scranton; Mrs. George W. Pilmer, Charles L. and Marion R., of Winterset; also eight grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his loss four sisters and one brother; Mrs. Nettie R. Speelman of Shannon City; Mrs. Mary E. Calhoun, Mrs. Jessie A. Garver and John J. Cameron, all of Millersburg, Ohio; and Mrs. Helen F. McCance of New Concord, Ohio. All of these with other friends, are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father and brother.
Funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian church Wednesday at 11 a.m. The sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. Malone, and the body laid to rest in Winterset cemetery.
