Death Came March 8 to Mrs. Alice Holderbaum

Alice M. Holderbaum, daughter of George and Anna L. May was born October 19, 1876 in Poland, New York, and died at the Redfield Clinic, on March 8, 1955, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 17 days.

She came to Iowa at an early age when her parents moved here, and settled at Stuart. Her early years were spent in Stuart. She worked in a print shop in Stuart for a time.

On October 17, 1906 she was married to J. A. Holderbaum of Dexter. They were the parents of two daughters.

After their marriage they moved to a farm in the Penn Center neighborhood where she spent most of her life.

Her husband preceded her in death September 5, 1937. Following the death of her husband she spent her time with her two daughters where she always made herself useful. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always concerned with the welfare of her loved ones and her constant association with them will long be treasured in their memories. She was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church, and was faithful in her religious duties.

Her father and mother, and two of her brothers, George and Bert, preceded her in death. She leaves her two daughters: Elaine Fink of Dexter and Doris Bennett of Earlham; two sisters, Lillian Hochstetler and Ina May of Dexter; one brother Edwin May of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Burial was at the Dexter cemetery.

Penn Center Services For Mrs. Holderbaum

Services for Mrs. Alice May Holderbaum who died March 8, 1955, were held Friday, March 11, 1955 at the Penn Center church at 2:00 p.m. The services were in charge of Rev. Clyde King. Music was furnished by Berniece Hadley, organist, and Mrs. Alma Mapes, and Mrs. Gertrude Conrad who sang, “Beyond the Sunset”, and “In The Garden.” Casket bearers were: John Moreland, Francis Hochstetler, Hazen Morford, Harry Switzer, Richard Clausen and George Fink. Flower ladies were Dorothy Morford, Louise Moreland, and Helen Hadley.
