Mrs. J. C. Thrailkill Dies at Farm Home Saturday

Mar. 15

Caroline Amanda, daughter of Henry and Christina Holderbaum, was born in Madison county, near Dexter on February 12, 1870 and passed away at her country home south of Dexter, Saturday morning March 15th, 1947 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 3 days.

She spent most of her girlhood days in Penn Township, living on the farm originally homesteaded by her father from the government. She received her education in the Madison county schools. Early in life she was confirmed and united with the Zion Lutheran church in Dexter.

In the year 1889 she was united in marriage to John Chester Thrailkill and to this union were born 16 children, 7 daughters and 9 sons. The husband and father and four sons have preceded her in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Thrailkill celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at their country home on September 24, 1939. Scores of friends and relatives called at the open house reception extending them the very best wishes for a long and happy life.

She was a true and faithful wife and a kind and loving mother, always wanting her children and grandchildren around her. No sacrifice was too good for her to make for her family. She loved her home and put forth every effort to make it enjoyable. She was a true Christian woman. Her life was filled with good deeds, boundless courage and sweet smiles. She loved everyone, enjoyed everything good and lived life to the fullest extent, giving and taking all that life offered.

On April 11th, 1946, nearly a year ago, her husband preceded her in death. She was his constant companion during his illness and subsequent death. Since the passing of her husband she has spent some time with the children but recently returned once again taking up the home she had loved through the years. It was on Thursday, just two days prior to her death, that she was taken suddenly ill and she slipped quietly away Saturday morning.

She leaves to mourn her death the following children: Mrs. Amy Pitcock and Charlie of Earlham; Mrs. Cora Hunter, De Land, Florida; Mrs. Tillie Heifner, Greenfield; Mrs. Nettie Howell, Winterset; Maurice, Macksburg; Wayne, Haines City, Florida; Mrs. Rachael Wasson, Mrs. Lulu Faust, Mrs. Alice Bradshaw, Chester and Ray all of Dexter. Thirty-three grandchildren survive, together with other relatives and a host of friends.

Burial was at the Dexter Cemetery.
