Wednesday, March 18, 1998John William Mahan, 79, of Winterset died of a respiratory ailment Friday, March 13, 1998, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 17, at Grace Baptist Church in Winterset with the Revs. S. D. Bodwell and David Elmore officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
John Mahan was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Madison County to John Franklin and Zetta Belle Simpson Mahan. He married Winifred Worley Sept. 22, 1940, in Winterset. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Kiwanis, Farm Bureau and Grace Baptist Church. He also served as a Madison County Supervisor from 1970 - 1974. He lived most of his life in Madison County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark; and one sister, Irene Mahan.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Michael of Memphis, Tenn., and J. Paul (wife Kathy) of Lakewood, Colo; and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
