Thursday, October 9, 1941Sanford T. Golightly passed away at his home in Earlham, October 2, 1941 after an illness of almost four years of heart trouble. Mr. Golightly has been a resident of Madison county for 45 years, moving from his farm to Earlham in 1925. Had he lived eight more days he would have reached the age of 74 years.
Sanford T. Golightly, son of Shands and Caroline Golightly was born in Polk (Pope) county, Illinois, October 10, 1867. At the age of four years his parents with four sisters and one brother moved with ox team to southern Kansas, where he grew to manhood. Mr. Golightly came to Iowa in 1893. He was married to Minnie L. Groth, May 28, 1895. To this union seven children were born. A daughter Elma Bunnell preceded him in death in 1935 and his wife in 1937.
He leaves to mourn his passing, four sons, John and Albert of Earlham; Jerome and Lloyd of Van Meter; two daughters, Eva Meyer of Van Meter and Erma Stanley of Monroe: eleven grandchildren; one brother Jerome Golightly of Wilmar, California and one sister Cora Hass (Hoss) of Independence, Kansas. His other three sisters preceded him in death.
He was converted in early boyhood and at the time of his death was a member of the Methodist church in Earlham.
Mr. Golightly was a kind and loving father, and a friend to every one he knew. He was always willing to help those in need.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 at the Methodist church with Rev. Latta officiating. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
