ETHEL IRENE BENSON

Ethel Irene, daughter of Cephas Dodd and Angelina Breakenridge Bricker, was born on a farm in Penn township, Madison County, Iowa, April 12,1885, and departed this life at the home of Grace Hermon in Earlham on October 2, 1963, where she had received loving care the past few months.

Ethel moved with her parents to Earlham when her father bought a general store in town in 1891 and her entire life was spent here with the exception of a few years when she and her husband lived in Joplin, Missouri.

She received her schooling in the Earlham schools, graduating with the class of 1903.

She later returned and took a business course which was taught at that time in the Earlham Schools.

She worked in the store owned by her father and brother until January 1, 1908 when she was married to Charles P. Benson.

Two daughters were born of this union: Marie (Mrs. Harold Fagen) of Earlham, and Eleanor (Mrs. Wilbur Flora) of Rhodes, Iowa.

At an early age, Ethel joined the Methodist church which she loved until her death.

She was very active in all phases of the work of the church and kept up with church work as long as her health permitted.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers; George, Earl and Carl; and sister Nellie Weatherly; also a grandson, Harold Marvin Fagen.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Marie and her husband Harold and their sons, Alan and Albert; also daughter Eleanor and husband Wilbur and their children, Julie, Suzanne and Edward; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Bricker of Oakland, California and Mrs. Carl Bricker of Earlham; nieces Cecile Lewis and husband, Ruthie Breheny and husband; nephews Dale Bricker, Paul Weatherly, Howard Bricker and their wives and families as well as great nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
