CLYDE MORRIS BENNETT

Clyde Morris Bennett was born December 3, 1872 on a farm north of Redfield and moved to the Bear Creek community when he was nine years old where he continued to live until his passing Novmber (November) 12, 1940 at the age of 67 years, 11 months and nine days.

He was the son of David M. and Lucinda Bennett who were pioneers in the Redfield neighborhood leaving their son an inheritance of honesty and integrity.

Clyde received his education in a rural school in preparation for life and was united in marriage to Olive M. Compton February 2, 1902. to this union two children were born, a son Carroll who resides on the old Bennett homestead near Bear Creek and Mrs. Verle Keller wife of Dr. E. H. Keller of Adel.

Besides his wife and two children he leaves to mourn their loss-two sisters Clara Meacham, his twin sister and Laura Bennett both of Redfield, and a brother Arthur Bennett also of Redfield, also four grandchildren, Beverly Ann and Larry Elmer Keller of Adel, and Lilah Marie and Marvin Dean Bennett of near Bear Creek. His parents and two brothers, an infant brother and an infant sister preceeded him in death.

The outstanding interest of his life was his family and his home where he taught his children the values of life as he saw them-Truth and Honesty. His nieces and nephews testify to the influence for right living which he generated in their lives.

His was a community spirit of helpfulness and loving kindness with a great respect for the church and true Godliness. Clyde often spoke of the truth mentioned in Matt. 7:14 which reads, "Strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

Although Clyde was not a member of any church-his was an appreciation of its purpose in the community and it seems significant that his last work was given in connections with its welfare.

Ever-more we shall miss the touch of a vanished hand, and the sound of the voice that is stilled.
