JIM GARNETT Rites Conducted

Funeral services were held this Tuesday for Milton "Jim" Garnett of Winterset, who died last Friday, April 5, 1974, at the age of 77.

According to Deputy Madison County Medical Examiner John Evans, Garnett died of a self-afflicted gunshot wound.

Mr. Garnett was born at Decorah, Iowa on September 22, 1896. He was raised from boyhood by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Southworth of Macksburg. He was married to Laura Dingman in Ringgold County on May 10, 1924

Mr. Garnett had been a resident of Madison County for the past 40 years. He was a retired farmer and carpenter.

A World War I veteran, Mr. Garnett was a member of Green-Rogers Post 184 of the American Legion in Winterset.

Survivors include two sons; James and Robert Garnett, both of Des Moines, six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Also surviving is one sister, Bonnie Glossinger of Creston.

Mr. Garnett was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and his wife, Laura.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur presiding. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery with military graveside rites by Green-Rogers Post 184 of the American Legion.
