OBITUARY

Diana Jane Stanley was born July 20th, 1854 at Paris, Edgar County, Illinois, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lind at Stuart, Iowa, April 28th, 1926 at the age of 81 years, nine months, and eight days.

At the early age she came with her parents to Earlham, later moving from there to Nebraska.

On November 25, 1873 she was united in marriage to John Bechtel, who preceded her in death December 2nd, 1923. Four children who died in infancy also preceded her. Those who mourn her departure are: Elmer, Eva, Lulu, John, Emery and Bert of Earlham; Mrs. Bert Thompson of Waurika, Oklahoma; Mrs. S. W. Kirkpatrick of Mason City; Mrs. Clarence Hodson of Forest City, and Mrs. John Lind of Stuart.

Mrs. Bechtel was a member of the M. E. Church. She was a loving and faithful mother. She loved her God and was happy to put her trust in Him ever during the eight years she was an invalid.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Methodist church. Conducted by Rev. L. G. Wolfe assisted by Rev. Peter Buck. Interment made in the Earlham Cemetery.

Mrs. John Bechtel Sr. Died Monday Eve.

Death Occurred at Home of Daughter in Stuart. Funeral Service Here Thursday Afternoon.

Mrs. John Bechtel Sr., 81, died Monday evening, April 27, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lind at Stuart. She had been an invalid since suffering a stroke seven years ago. Her condition became very serious about three weeks ago and she grew gradually weaker until the end.

Mrs. Bechtel had lived here as a child but moved with her parents to Nebraska when she was about 12 years old. She married in Nebraska and in 1900 returned with her family to Earlham where she has lived since that time. The last three weeks of her life were spent with her daughter in Stuart.

She is survived by four sons and six daughters. They are Elmer Bechtel, Earlham; Mrs. Eva Haney, Earlham; Mrs. Sadie Kirkpatrick, Mason City; Mrs. Bert Thompson, Waurika, Oklahoma; Mrs. J. J. Thompson, Earlham; Mrs. Clara Hodson, Forest City, Iowa; Mrs. John Lind, Stuart; John Bechtel, Earlham; Albert Bechtel, Earlham; and Emory Bechtel, Earlham.

Funeral services in charge of Rev. Wolfe and Rev. Bock were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Earlham Methodist church of which Mrs. Bechtel was a member. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

Week’s Letter from Earlham

Funeral services for Mrs. John Bechtel, Sr., were held Thursday afternoon at the Earlham Methodist church of which Mrs. Bechtel was a member. Rev. Wolfe assisted by Rev. Bock had charge.

Mrs. Bechtel lived in Earlham when a small child, but moved with her parents to Nebraska when about twelve years old. She married in Nebraska and in 1900 returned with her family to Earlham where she has lived since that time. The last three weeks of her life were spent at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Lind.

Mrs. Bechtel is survived by ten children, Elmer of Earlham, Mrs. Eva Haney of Earlham, Mrs. Sadie Kirkpatrick of Mason City, Mrs. Bert Thompson of Waurika, Oklahoma, Mrs. J. J. Thompson of Earlham, Mrs. Clara Hodson of Forest City, Mrs. Elsie Lind of Stuart, John, Albert and Emory all of Earlham.
