Robert LeRoy Parkins, 86, of Winterset died Jan. 8, 2006, at Winterset Care Center North.
Funeral services were held today (Wed. Jan. 11) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military honors performed by VFW Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.
Bob Parkins was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Madison County to Ellis and Clarinda (Gibson) Parkins. His marriage to Helen Louise Martens took place Feb. 9, 1941.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic. As a young man, he worked at Green's Grocery and after the war was a driver for Anderson Erickson Dairy. Bob also was employed by the Winterset Post Office, retiring as assistant postmaster.
He attended the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandy Bowman of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two grandchildren, one foster grandson, two great grandchildren, and one foster great-grandson.
