Warren R. Kirkland, 66, of Winterset died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, at the United Methodist Church in Macksburg. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Warren was born Dec. 3, 1939, in Afton, Iowa, the son of Ralph “Bussy” and Leona (McDonald) Kirkland. His marriage to Betty Blazer took place July 31, 1960, at the First Methodist Church in Winterset.

Warren was a farmer most of his life. He worked part time with the ASCS office in Winterset, was a federal crop insurance adjuster, and later became a FSA director in Donnellson, Iowa. He also drove a truck for McKenzie (hauling hogs), did custom farming and hauled propane for Virgil Smith.
Warren was a member of the Iowa Pork Producers and Cattlemen’s associations and the Madison County Farm Bureau, of which he served on the board and as president. He also was the recipient of the Friends of Farmer Award from the Pork Producers and was an honorary FFA member of the Orient Macksburg FFA chapter.

He is survived by his wife Betty Kirkland of Winterset; his mother, Leona Kirkland of Winterset; three daughters, Cynthia (Jerry) Sevier of Orient, Sheri (Michael) Berry of Haysville, Kan., and Kathy (Ken) Tynan of Des Moines; two brothers, Carl (Peggy) Kirkland of Lorimor and Ronald (Denise) Kirkland of Macksburg; five grandchildren, Spencer and Megan Leitzel and Michael, Krystal and Paige Berry; several nieces and nephews, Randy Smith, Robert (Sheila) Kirkland, James (Amy) Kirkland, Thomas (Kelly) Kirkland, Daniel (Heidi) Kirkland, Matthew (Sarah) Kirkland, and great-nieces and nephews, Carla Smith, Raegen Smith, Kendra Kirkland, Kaden Kirkland, Karah Kirkland, Carter Kirkland and Grace Kirkland.

His father, Ralph Kirkland, and a niece Brenda Smith, preceded him in death.
