ASA F. BEALS

Asa F. Beals was born November 20, 1902. He passed away Sunday, August 17, 1980 after having major surgery on the preceding Wednesday, Asa had stated on several occasions lately that he wasn't worried about his health but was ready for whatever the Lord had planned for him. Phillipians 1:20 is a true testimony of his life: "I want always to be an honor to Christ, whether I live or whether I must die."

Asa was the youngest of seven living children born to James and Margaret Beals. He graduated from Earlham High School in 1922, and attended William Penn College. He lived his entire life in the vicinity of Earlham. He was a retired farmer and Earlham city employee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. Survivors are his brothers an sisters; Isaac, of Indianola, Stella Jones of Earlham, Elbert, of Earlham, Virgil, of New Virginia, Earl, of Earlham, and Lula of Winterset. Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Asa.

A lifetime member of Bear Creek Friends Church, church life was the center of Asa's activities. During his lifetime he had held nearly all offices in the local church as well as many quarterly meeting and yearly meeting offices. Currently, he was Sunday school superintendent and on the Ministry and Council at Bear Creek Church. He was also serving on the nominating committee of Bear Creek Quarterly Meeting and the Discipline Committee of Iowa Yearly meeting.

Asa had enjoyed a good health until just before his surgery. Only moments before he passed away he was joking with the nurses challenging them to race him down the hospital corridors. Loved by family and friends, his Christian advice and counsel were highly respected.

Rev. Robert Voorhees conducted the services at the Bear Creek Friends Church with interment in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Casket bearers were Fred Jones, Roger Jones, Steve Savage, William Ralston, Larry Beals, and Alan White.

Professional services by McKee Funeral Home in Earlham and Dexter.
