DWIGHT M. BARR

Dwight Melvin Barr, son of Dewey Melvin Barr and Myrtle Thomas was born on a farm near Menlo, Iowa on December 2, 1908. He attended school at Penn #3 and high school in Dexter. On June 24, 1929 he was united in marriage to Edna Smith in Perry, Iowa. To this union five children were born; Meriam Jurgensen of Earlham, Darlene O'brien of Stuart, Robert Barr of Council Bluffs, Darrel Barr of Des Moines and Darwin Barr of Earlham.

He spent his entire life as a farmer in the Dexter-Earlham area. In January of 1970 he suffered a stroke at his home south of Dexter. In April of 1973 they moved to their home in Dexter.

In October of 1981 he was hospitalized and he was unable to be at home for very long at a time after that. He had been in the Community Care Center at Stuart since June 1982.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, five children; his sister Helen Hibbs of Earlham, three brothers, Hoyt of Redfied, Max of Stuart and Duane of Dexter; 20 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He enjoyed walking up town and visiting with all his friends till finally he was unable to do so.

He was a good father and a loyal friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted December 24, 1982 at the Dexter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Farr officiating. Organ music was provided by Robert Lawson. Pallbearers were Tim Barr, Craig Jurgensen, Jim Barr, Donnie O'Brien, Kent Jurgensen, David Barr. Honorary Pallbearers were Chuck Jurgensen, Don O'Brien Sr., and Doug Barr. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa.
