DEWEY MELVIN BARR

Dewey Melvin Barr, son of Charles D. and Elizabeth Barr, was born in Madison County, Iowa, on July 6, 1886, and passed away at the Maple Lin Manor nursing home in Earlham, December 12, 1966, at the age of 80 years, five months and six days.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle E. Thomas on May 1, 1907. To this union were born five children: Dwight Melvin Barr of Stuart, Duane Thomas Barr of Dexter, Helen Elizabeth Hibbs of Earlham, Charles Hoyt Barr of Redfield, and Ralph Max Barr of Stuart. Eight grandchildren also survive his passing, as do twenty great grandchildren. One brother Ray Barr of Amarillo, Texas, and two sisters; Inez Shaw and Dorotha Compton, both of Stuart, are also survivors, plus several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers.

"Mel," as he was known, was a lifetime resident in the Dexter area. His main, interests were farming and livestock. At the time of his death he was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, where he and his wife had faithfully served for many years. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all.

Final services were held at the Methodist Church in Dexter, with the Rev. John Latta officiating. Intement was made at the Dexter Cemetery, Wednesday December 14.
