Rhoda A. Barnett, daughter of Amos and Mary Barnett, was born near Walla Walla, Washington, on April 16, 1865, and departed this life in Los Angeles, California, on the morning of Thursday, September 16, 1937, at the age of 72 years and five months.
At the age of one year, her parents removed from the west to their former home in the state of Iowa.
A birthright Friend, she held membership for many years in the meeting at Earlham, where she was converted at an early age. Other meetings which held her membership and deep interest were at Paonia, Colorado, for twelve years, and Whittler for eleven years.
Religiously inclined, the services of the church, the Sunday School, and the prayer meetings were very dear to her heart, and she was to be found in her place whenever able to attend. The Bible was her daily companion. In it many of her favorite passages were underscored. She was kind to those in trouble and did do all she could for neighbors who were ill.
Rhoda had failed in health especially during the past year, and five weeks ago she was taken to the hospital, where her decline was rapid, in spite of the ministrations of loved ones, her doctor and nurse. She frequently spoke of her desire to return to her home in Whittier, but indicated a willingness that the Lord whom she served, should have His way.
Surviving her are two brothers and three sisters, Curtis Barnett of Jenkentown, Pennsylvania, Martin Barnett of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. T. D. Barnett of Whittier, Mrs. E. S. Compton and Mrs. William Jackson of Earlham. The last named was with her sister the last few weeks of her illness.
