Lizzie Ruth Wilson, daughter of Barnett and Thamson H. Wilson, was born February 21, 1865, on a farm in Dallas County, about one and on-half miles north of Earlham, where she lived until her marriage to Atha N. Barnett in 1900, at which time they made their home in Earlham.
She received her education in the rural school at Union Township No. 8.
Lizzie and Atha Barnett had no family of their own, but took into their home Flossie and Charlie Trucks, niece and nephew of Atha. Louise Cox little daughter of Flossie Trucks Cox, after the death of her mother in 1925 came to make her home with her great aunt, Lizzie and uncle, Atha, which remained her home until her marriage.
Lizzie was a kind and helpful sister and neighbor, often being called upon in sickness and other times of stress, and was familiarly known by many as Aunt Lizzie. She and her husband cared for her aged parents for a number of years, her mother being an invalid during the latter part of her life.
She was birthright member of the Earlham Friends Meeting, where she remained a member until the time of her passing. When she was no longer able to attend the services, she was enrolled as a member of the Home Department of the Sunday School. She was a useful member of the Women's Missionary Society and a very faithful member of the WCTU.
Although for many years she was handicapped by rheumatism, in getting around, she lived alone and uncomplainingly did her own work. In April, 1949 she fell and injured herself to the extent that she was taken to the Restorium in West Des Moines where she remained until her death, July 13, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1926 and by a sister, Nellie Horton and a brother, William Wilson. Surviving are two sisters, Ida McBride of Earlham, Mary Barnett of Indianola, and several nieces and nephews.
