MORTUARY

Catherine Ryan was born in Kilkenny county, Ireland, Feb. 7, 1859. At the age of fourteen she with her sister, the late Mrs. John Melroy, came to America and settled in Wisconsin.

She was united in marriage to Bernard Johnson on May 20, 1884 at St. Patrick's church, Irish settlement by Rev. Father Rice, and from that time has made her home in Bevington until the day of her death, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 1918.

About one year ago, her health began to fail and she had been able to ride out part of the time and until the day of her death retained full use of her faculties, being consumed by the rites of her faith and surrounded by her seven children: John C. and Mrs. M. Breen of Winterset; Mrs. Ray Swisher of Indianapolis; Thos. F. and Jos. A. of Des Moines, and William L. and Mrs. Daniel Clark of Bevington. She was loved by all who knew her, for her patience through her long suffering. She gave her life in sacrifice for her husband and children and her memory will live forever.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. V. Dugan at St. Patrick's church, and interment in St. Patrick's cemetery beside her husband, who died five years ago. The pall bearers were her four sons and two sons-in-law, M. Breen and Daniel Clark.
