Into the home of James J. and Sarah Hamblem Afflack in Clinton County, Illinois, on December 22, 1874, came their first born son, Charles Raymond Afflack.
He moved with his parents to a farm near Fontanelle, Iowa in 1897.
He was married to Mabel Fairholm Applegate on April 17, 1901 and established a home in Massena, Iowa, where he was employed at the Dunlap Elevator.
He moved with his family to Madison County in 1912, being engaged in farming and dairying until three years ago which he retired because of ill health.
He manifested a keen interest in the new home while it was under construction and which he was privileged to enjoy just one year.
Raymond was a member of the Church of Christ in Earlham, having transferred his membership from Massena.
He was a member of the Madison Lodge Masonic Order and was an active member of Eastern Star while his health permitted.
His home was his castle and the doors were always open to his friends.
Mr. Afflack passed away at the Winterset hospital February 9, 1954, at the age of 79 years, one month and 18 days.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Oral V. of Des Moines and Dr. Don H. of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Three grandchildren and one great grandson. Two sisters, Mrs. Vada Knouf of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Charles Black of Tuxford, Canada. One brother, Roy Afflack, of Naicom, Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and a granddaughter.
Last rites were held from the Church of Christ in Earlham, February 11, at 2 p.m. with Rev. S. R. Overholser and Rev. Loren Emerson officiating (missing words)onic committal by Ralph H. (missing name and word) service. Interment in Earlham Cemetery.

Charles R. Afflack, a long time resident of the Earlham community, died at the Madison County Memorial hospital Tuesday, February 9. He had been in failing health for some time and had been a patient at the hospital since January 1. He was 79 years old.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Earlham Church of Christ with Rev. Loren Emerson in charge, assisted by Rev. S. R. Overholser. Mr. Afflack was a member of the Earlham Masonic lodge and the Masons also had a part in the services. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
Mr. Afflack was born in Clinton county, Illinois, December 22, 1874. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1897, locating at Fontanelle. He and Mabel Fairholm Applegate were married April 17, 1901.
In 1912 they moved to the Earlham community engaging in farming and dairying.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Oral of Des Moines, and Dr. Donald H. Afflack of Parkersburg, West Virginia, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
