Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday, May 29, for Jake Pettit of Winterset, a longtime resident of Madison County. He died at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset last Saturday, May 25, at the age of 81.
Mr. Pettit was born in Madison County on June 13, 1892, the son of McAlton and Milisa Philley Pettit. He was married to Vela Iiams on October 6, 1919.
Mr. Pettit was a retired farmer. He was affiliated with the Christian Church.
Survivors include four children: Thomas, Sammie, and Lilbert Pettit, all of Winterset; and Alta Schaefer of Davenport. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and by one son.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. E. E. Jandebeur of Winterset presiding. Burial was in the Peru Cemetery at Peru.
