J. Warren Rippey Takes Own Life

Prominent Ord Farmer Is Found Dead, Hanging In Barn, Saturday

The people of this community were shocked to hear of the death of Joseph Warren Rippey of Lincoln township, last Saturday, June 9th. He has been in poor health and this ---- Saturday morning, when he failed to come to breakfast, Mrs. Rippey went to the barn and found that he had taken his life, by hanging.

Mr. Rippey was one of the most highly respected citizens, and he took a prominent part in the affairs of the community. In 1900 he was appointed, by the president of the United States, as postmaster at Ord, and he held that position until the office was discontinued. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge.

The deceased was 52 years of age and he had lived his entire life in Lincoln township. He was a son of Joseph and Miranda Rippey, and was born July 1, 1875. He was married to Zoa I. Weeks April 28, 1897, and to them were born five sons and two daughters, two of whom died in infancy, Dale and James. Besides his wife he leaves three sons, Olin of Leon, Russel of Perry, and Gleason of Glendale, California, and two daughters at home, Faith and Grace. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles of Aztec, New Mexico, and George of Peru, and three grandchildren.

The Rev. F. Clare McCallon conducted the funeral services at the Ord church, Tuesday afternoon, June 12th, at three o'clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Obituary – Joseph Warren Rippey

Joseph Warren Rippey, son of Joseph C. and Marinda Rippey was born July 1, 1875 and died June 9, 1928 at the age of fifty-two. He was united in marriage to Zora I. Weeks April 28, 1897 and to this union were born five ons and two daughters, Dale and James C. dying in infancy.

He is survived by his wife; his sons, Owen of Leon, Russell of Perry and Gleason of Glendale, California; two daughters Faith and Grace who live at home; two brothers Charles C. of Aztec, New Mexico and George of Peru.

He is a life long resident of Lincoln township and a member of Ord church and the I. O. O. F. He was postmaster at Ord for eight years. Mr. Rippey was held in high esteem by all his neighbors.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Ord church by the Rev. F. Clare McCallon.
