Fred V. Kuntz of Winterset Dies

Fred V. Kuntz of Winterset, retired farmer and former Madison county supervisor, died Monday, Jan. 30, 1967, at Memorial hospital here. He was 85 years of age.

Mr. Kuntz had lived in Madison County all but the first six months of his life, and was widely known as a successful farmer and stock raiser, and for his long record of activity in public affairs. He served on the Madison county board of supervisors for six years, from 1933 to 1939. He was one of the founders of the Farmers Cooperative Asso. At Winterset, of which he was vice president for seven years, and president for 25 years. For many years he was a director of rural schools.

Mr. Kuntz was born Feb. 25, 1881 at Nevada, in Wyandotte County, Ohio, a son of Henry and Lovina Johnston Kuntz. When he was 6 months of age he came with his parents to Madison County. They lived in Winterset for several years, then moved into a log house on a farm in Douglas township, until he retired and moved to Winterset in 1946. He attended the West Star church, and later became a member of the First Methodist Church of Winterset.

On May 10, 1904, he was married to M. Eathel McDonald. Her death occurred July 7, 1962.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Sawyers and Mrs. Blanche Easter of Winterset, and Mrs. Eunice Hann of Des Moines; four grandchildren eight great grandchildren; a brother Charles H. Kuntz of Winterset, and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Wright of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the First Methodist Church of Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Everett K. Burham. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.
