Thursday, February 21, 1985Emma Tough was the daughter of James and Christena Paulsen. Born in Kellogg, Iowa on November 25, 1895 and passed away February 12, 1985 at Earlham Care Center.
Emma spent the early part of her life in Kellogg and was a member of the Christian Church. After graduating from high school she went to work as a clerk in a grocery store.
On November 25, 1920 she was united in marriage to Edward Tough. They moved to Earlham where they operated a cafe for 13 years, then on to Odebolt and into the produce business for several years. After retiring they returned to Earlham and became interest in antiques as a hobby until Ed's passing in 1976.
Emma loved her home and took great pride in her flowers but she had been in failing health for several years.
There were no children born to this union, however, she was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, four sisters and one brother.
Services were held February 15 at the First Presbyterian Church of Earlham, with the Reverend Gladys Priest officiating. Music was provided by Donna Fastle, organist. Pallbearers were Jim Tough, William Waldorf, Lee Spencer, Don Tough, Jim Welch and Harold Guessford. Interment was at Earlham Cemetery.
Professional arrangements were by McKee Funeral Homes of Earlham and Dexter.
