Charles Kuntz Dies at Age 97

Charles H. Kuntz, a longtime Madison County resident and farmer, died last Thursday, June 5, atthe Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 97 years of age.

Born at Nevada, Ohio on June 29, 1877, Mr. Kuntz had lived in Madison County for the past 94 years. He was the son of Henry and Lovina Johnston Kuntz, and was married to Myrtle M. Ford at Winterset on June 17, 1903.

A farmer in Jackson Township for many years, Mr. Kuntz was a former secretary of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Association. He was a member for 71 years in the Blue Lodge, for 55 years in the Consistory and was a Lions Club member for 30 years.

Mr. Kuntz was also active as a Shriner, and served on the school board in Jackson Township for many years. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Mr. Kuntz is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Garland Howell, Mrs. Floyd Hart and Mrs. Dean Hart all of Winterset; and by two sons, Dean Kuntz of Winterset and Fred Kuntz of Des Moines.Also surviving are nine grandchildren,24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, in addition one sister, Lizzie Wright of Winterset, survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, a grandson and one great-greatgrandaughter.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, with the Rev. Paul Bousfield and Dr. Paul Hann officiating. Burial with Masonic rites, was at the Winterset Cemetery.
