Services Held for Laura Garnett

Funeral services were held Thursday from the First Christian Church of Winterset for Mrs. Laura W. Garnett, whose death had occurred Aug. 30, 1971 at Madison Manor here. The Rev. Eldon E. Jandebaur pastor of the First Christian Church of Winterset conducted the services. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

Mrs. Garnett was a well-known Winterset resident for many years. She was a former Madison County treasurer, and prior to that had served as deputy clerk of the district court. For many years she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Union State Bank.

Mrs. Garnett was the former Laura Dingman, daughter of James M. and Eva Eaton Dingman. She was born at Decatur City March 14, 1901, and was 70 years of age at her death.

She was married to M.(Jim) Garnett on May 10, 1924, in Ringgold county. They farmed in Grand River township until moving to Winterset in 1942.

Mrs. Garnett was active in the First Christian Church here, serving as church treasurer and as a Sunday school teacher.

In addition to her husband, she leaves two sons, James and Robert Garnett, both of West Des Moines. She also leaves two brothers, Winford and Kenneth Dingman of Leon; and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Mead of Manchester. She also leaves six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
