Ralph B. Hunter, Earlham, Ia.

Ralph B. Hunter, 95, of Earlham, Chairman of the Board and former president of Earlham Savings Bank died of pneumonia Tuesday Nov. 11, 1986, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Earlham United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Earlham Cemetery.

Mr. Hunter was a lifelong resident of Earlham and had also lived at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. He was a member of Earlham Presbyterian Church, was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge and he served in the Army during World War I.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. of Earlham, three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at McKee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the funeral Friday in the community room of the Earlham Savings Bank.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ralph B. Hunter Memorial Fund in care of the Earlham Saving Bank.

Services Held for Ralph Hunter

Services were held Friday for Ralph B. Hunter, a long time member of the Earlham community. He died November 11, 1986 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 95 years old.

Hunter attended school in Earlham. He was chairman of the board of the Earlham Savings Bank and was a 50 year member of the Iowa Bankers Association.

Hunter was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion and a 50 year Masonic member. He was also a long time field representative in southwest Iowa for Equitable of Iowa.

He was married to Nellie Mae Kerr on July 30, 1919. They had been married 61 years at the time of Nellie’s death in 1981.

Ralph B. Hunter, the son of William A. and Harriett Brock Hunter, was born May 20, 1891 in Earlham, Iowa. He passed away November 11, 1986 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Ralph attended school in Earlham, and as a young man found great pleasure in assisting Dr. Edwin S. Day in whatever way he was needed. He was a World War I veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a 50 year Masonic member. Ralph was pleased to be a long time field representative in Southwest Iowa for Equitable of Iowa.

On July 30, 1919 he was united in marriage to Nellie Mae Kerr in Montrose, Iowa. They had been married 61 years at the time of Nellie’s death in 1981. To this union was born one son, Robert.

Ralph was very ecumenical in his Christian faith. He was baptized in the Methodist Church and was a member there until 1929 when he transferred to the First Presbyterian Church were Nellie was an active member. In the years to follow he served the church in many capacities including trustee and elder, and in 1947 was sent as a commissioner to the General Assembly.

Ralph was currently Chairman of the Board of the Earlham Savings Bank, and was a 50 year member of the Iowa Bankers Association. He maintained an active interest in Earlham and its general welfare.

He enjoyed new friends at his residence in Wesley Acres in Des Moines while keeping himself a part of his home community of Earlham as well.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Nellie, by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include his son Robert and his wife Marilyn; granddaughter Shelley Hunter of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson John Hunter of Daytona Beach, Florida, and grandson William and wife Fay and great grandchildren Mollie Lynn and Noah Brock Hunter of Earlham.

Funeral services were conducted November 14, 1986 at the United Methodist Church in Earlham, with Reverend Gladys Priest officiating assisted by Reverend Helen Farr and Reverend Eldon Cole. Donna Fastle was organist. Pallbearers were Paul Schafer, Myron DeVore, Robert J. Kress, Dean Nelson, Vernon Geiger and James W. Belden. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
