John Monaghan and George A. Potter, two prominent citizens of this community, have passed away during the past week. Both men were born and raised in this county and had done much to further the best interests of Winterset and surrounding territory.

Mr. Monaghan, who lived one and a half miles northwest of Winterset, was in town Monday, March 19th. He became ill that night and pneumonia developed shortly afterwards. His heart was too weak to withstand the attack and he died Friday night, March 23d, about midnight.

The deceased, who was a son of James and Margaret Monaghan, pioneer residents of Winterset, was born here 64 years ago. Since that time he has made his home in Winterset and vicinity. He was married thirteen years ago, to Miss Mary McKinley, of Des Moines. She and their three children, John, William and Joan, survive him. He is the last of the James Monaghan family, his last sister, Miss Mary, being killed in an elevator accident in Des Moines several years ago.

Rev. Luke S. Plunkett conducted the funeral services at St. Joseph's Catholic church Monday, March 26, at 9 o'clock, and burial was made in the St. Patrick's cemetery, north of Bevington.
