An 82-year-old native of Madison County, Joseph Eugene Bruns, died Wednesday, September 15, 1976, at Madison County Memorial Hospital. He was born May 23, 1894, the son of Henry Bruns and Katherine Reynolds Bruns.

Joe Bruns lived throughout his life in Madison County. He operated a Winterset butcher shop (Bruns Bros.) until 1924 and farmed in Douglas township until his retirement in 1956. He was a member of the county fair board for many years.

The marriage of Joe Bruns and Jennie Marie Allgeyer took place November 6, 1917, in Winterset. Mr. Bruns was affiliated with St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie; three sons, Paul of Toledo, Iowa; Robert of Karlsruhe, Germany, and Joe W. of Adair, Iowa; five daughters, Mary Williams of California City, California; Nora Mae English of San Diego, California; Genevieve Melroy of Winterset; Betty Campbell of Wichita, Kansas, and Dorothy Kennedy of Lake City, Minnesota.

Also surviving are 40 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Joseph Bruns was preceded in death by one son, Jack in 1964, three brothers and one sister and his parents.

Funeral services for Joseph Eugene Bruns were conducted Saturday, September 18, at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset, Father Gene Cunningham presiding. Burial was made at Chase-McDonald Cemetery.

A rosary was recited Friday evening, Sept. 17, at 8 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home.
