Doris Elizabeth McDonald, 79, of Creston died Dec.14, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. The Rev. Clark Finehout will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Afton. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Friday with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial will be established in her name.

Mrs. McDonald, daughter of Ruth Harriet (Porter) and George Dewey Anderson, was born April 14, 1926 in Chicago, Ill. She grew up in the Afton area and graduated from Afton school in 1944. On Sept. 28, 1945, she married LaVern D. McDonald in Cheyenne, Wyo. They lived in Creston from 1948 to 1955, moved to California for two years, to Atlantic in 1957 and returned to Creston in 1972.
She worked at Safeway and later as a secretary at Walnut Grove, both in Atlantic. She worked for Fansteel/Wellman Dynamics from 1974 until 1986. After her husband’s death in 1987, she continued to live in Creston.

On March 4, 1989, she married Dale Reed at the First United Methodist Church in Creston. She was a member of the Lady Elk’s, American Legion Auxiliary, Lakeshore Country Club, and a canasta club.

Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl (McDonald) Rhoads (husband Bill) Lutrick of San Marcos, Calif.; two sons, Larry McDonald of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Jeff (wife Susan) McDonald of Juneau, Alaska; eight grandchildren, Kelly (husband Dan) Sanford, Beth Ann (husband Stephen) Johnson, Matthew McDonald, Andrew (wife Natasha) McDonald, Jonathon McDonald, Katy McDonald, Desiree (Dan Ritz) McDonald and Joshua (wife Bandi) McDonald; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, LeRoy McDonald and Dale McDonald, both of Creston; five sisters-in-law Leona Kirkland of Macksburg, Eleanor Hammons of Payson, Ariz., Bonnie Pulliam of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ruby Dibel and Beulah McDonald, both of Creston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Vern McDonald in 1987; second husband Dale Reed in 1999; sister Pauline Rusher; brother Jack Anderson and nephew Peter Rusher.
