Gertie M. Ackerman

Gertie Meyer Ackerman, daughter of O.W. Oscar Meyer and Fanny Klingenberg Meyer was born April 19, 1889, in Grundy County at Holland, Iowa. She passed away August 17, 1969 at the Madison Memorial Hospital, Winterset.

The family lived in Holland, Iowa and later moved to George, Iowa. When Gertie was four years old her mother died and she lived with an aunt and uncle in Aplington. In her teens, she joined her father, sister and brother and the family moved to Milbanks, South Dakota. The family later moved back to George.

In 1910 the family moved to Earlham, Iowa. At this time she lived with her father and brother on the home place in Earlham. On February 27, 1913 she was married to William Ackerman from Aplington and has made her home south of Earlham, on the home place until the present time.

Because of poor health since 1957 she had been frequently hospitalized and the last year was spent in Madison Memorial Hospital and Madison Manor in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1962, a son Oscar in 1964, her parents, a sister Mary, a brother, George and an infant brother.

She will always be remebered by her children, Virgil, Virginia, and son-in-law William Porter as a gracious, kind, generous person and the most wonderful Mother in the world.
