William "Bill" Craigue Morse, 97, of Winterset died April 10, 2002, of multiple organ system failure at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastors Terry Kerr and Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery, Webster Township, Madison County.

Bill Morse was born June 22, 1904 in Dallas County to Leon J. and Wilda (McKibben) Morse. He married Velda May Hulbert on July 24, 1928 in Indianola. A retired farmer, he also had been a truck and school bus driver, headstone setter, a prison guard at Clive State Prison Farm, a security guard at the state fair in the 1920s and had worked for PMA & Soil Conservation. A resident of the Madison County area for all of his adult life, Bill had been a member of the Madison County Fair Board, Madison County 4-H Boys' Club Committee, County Shorthorn Breeders Association, Winterset Odd Fellows, Winterset Rebekah Lodge and Oak Grove Community Church. He also was a former county supervisor, a county commissioner, Webster Township AA committeeman and vice-chairman of the county PMA committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a grandson and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Velda of Winterset; a son, W.C. "Bill" Morse (wife Mary J.) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Betty Johns (husband Jack) of Earlham and Ida Morse (wife of son Edgar "Eddie" Morse; a sister, Maxine Jensen of Winterset; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund or Oak Grove Community Church, rural Winterset.
