C. C. Korner, a resident of Winterset for the past 50 years, died at his home on Filmore street, Tuesday, August 21st, at the age of 73 years.

He was born in Linkoping, Sweden, a suburb of Stockholm, and at the age of twenty came to the states with his sister, Mrs George Hauser, of Minden, Nebraska, who preceded him in death three weeks ago. For years he was stock buyer and assistant on the C. D. Bevington farm, south of town.

He leaves to mourn his loss, one daughter, Mrs. M. Mercurio, and her husband, who have been here during his illness and one sister, Mrs. Amelia Bloomquist, of Salt Lake City, Utah. One brother of Stockholm, proceeded him in death six weeks ago.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Tidrick funeral home Friday, at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.

Obituary – Charles Christian Korner

Charles Christian Korner was born in Linkoping, Sweden, September 5th, 1854. He came to America, arriving in Des Moines, on his nineteenth birthday.

He soon came to Winterset where he afterward made his home. He worked for some time on a farm, then later raised and drove horses. After that he was a trusted employee of the late Dr. Bevington for many years; and after the doctor’s death he continued with the estate for many years.

He was married to Ida Belle Allen November 26th, 1884. One daughter was born to them, now Mrs. Lorraine Mecuria of Chicago. Mrs. Korner passed away in 1924. He was an active and faithful member of the Odd Fellow lodge of Winterset for many years. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

When he came to maerica the pastor of the Swedish Lutheran church of Linkoping province gave hime a letter to the Episcopal church of America, telling of his religious instruction and his industry and good character. This is written in Swedish and translated below into English and is still treasured in the family.

He was taken sick several months ago and suffered much. He passed away August 21st, 1928, aged 73 years 11 months and 15 days. He leaves beside his daughter, who cared for him in his last sickness one brother in Stockholm, Sweden and one sister in Salt Lake City. Two of his sisters died only three days apart two months ago. He will (be) long remembered for his industry and faithfulness.

Rev. A. P. Keast conducted service in the Tidrick funeral home Friday afternoon August 24th and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery where Madison Losge No. 136 I. O. O. F. was in charge of the service.
