Marilyn Drake, 82, of Adel Acres Care Center died

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Dec. 14) at the Waukee United Methodist Church. A private burial will be held at a later date at Roberts Cemetery in rural Dexter.

Marilyn Drake was born Jan. 16, 1923, to Meryl and Lula Herriot of Stuart. On April 4, 1947, she married Glenn A. Drake. They farmed in rural Dallas and Guthrie counties. In 1956, they moved their family to rural Hartford, residing there until 1967, when they moved to rural Adel. After her children grew up, Marilyn embarked on a career in real estate. She had been a resident of Adel Acres Care Center since mid 2005. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, most recently in Waukee.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn, of Adel Acres Care Center; two sons, Donald G. Drake of rural Ames and Alan D. Drake of rural Adel; one daughter, Susan L. McAtee of rural Earlham; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions, in her name, may be directed to the Waukee United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Brooks Funeral Care in Clive.
