Page 6, Column 4Leonard Hamilton Rehard was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, May 4th, 1849 and died Feb. 1, 1917 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nellie A. Comp, age 67 years and 9 months.
In 1865, he came with his parents to Iowa, and two years later to Madison county, where he resided until his death. On Dec. 23, 1869, he was married to Margaret I. Henton of Madison county. To their union, nine children were born: eight boys and one girl, four of whom died in infancy. Those remaining are A. W. of Ockeley, Minn.; W. L. and J. E. of Juntley, Mont.; J. W. of Wenatchee, Washington; and Nellie A. Comp of Madison county, Iowa. Since the death of his wife, on July 19, 1906, he made his home with his daughter.
In 1870, Brother Rehard surrendered his heart to God, through the influence of a faithful wife and remained a devout believer in the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ, even unto the end. His suffering was intense, but even in the midst of his agony, he never forgot to pray for the upbuilding of God's kingdom. The M. E. church of which he was a faithful member, never lagged because Brother Rehard failed to do his duty. He was a sincere contributor to the local church, to the hospitals, school and the missionary work at home and abroad. He loved the Savior, and tried with all his might to be true. His death was not a defeat; it was a victory through Christ Jesus. The old earthly structure has fallen, but it has been replaced by that spiritual mansion which shall stand throughout eternity.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Winterset M. E. church, conducted by his present pastor, A. J. Nielsen of Patterson, assisted by his former pastors Rev. R. A. Grigsby of West Star church, and Rev. J. E. Clearwater. The remains were interred in the Winterset cemetery.
