Member of Pioneer Family in Walnut Township Succumbs --
Anderson Fenimore, member of a pioneer Walnut township family, died at his home near Peru last Friday at the age of 75 years. He had been in failing health for several months.
Mr. Fenimore was the son of William and Martha Ogburn Fenimore, and was born on a farm near Peru on June 22, 1863. He was one of a family of 10 children. His entire life was spent in farming and livestock buying, except for four years during which he was engaged in the mercantile business in Peru.
He was married to Miss Hattie (sic) A. Sawhill on Nov. 22, 1888. Just a few weeks ago, on Nov. 22 of the past year, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They were the parents of nine children.
Mr. Fenimore united with the Christian church as a young man and later affiliated with the Methodist church in Peru. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, holding membership in Hazel lodge No. 572, and was a charter member of the Odd Fellow lodge.
He is survived by his wife and nine children; Mrs. C.W. Youmans, Mrs. J.O. Street, Grover, William, Bryan, and Wallace Fenimore all of Peru, Mrs. Fred Herwehe of Rock Island, Ill, Mrs. Ed Adams of Des Moines, and Mrs. Glenn Messnier of Shenandoah.

Anderson Fenimore, son of William and Martha Ogburn Fenimore, pioneer settlers of Madison county, was born on a farm near Peru, June 22, 1863 and died at his home December 30, 1938 at the age of 75.
Fenimore was one of a family of ten children and his entire life was spent in farming and livestock buying, with the exception of about four years in which he was engaged in the mercantile business. He was United in marriage to Mattie A. Sawhill, Nov. 22, 1888. To this union nine children were born, Mrs. Floy M. Youmans, Mrs. Velcie C. Street, Grover A., William Brian, Emery Nelson and Wallace Clair Fenimore all of Peru, Mrs. Flossie E. Herwehe of Rock Island, Ill.; Mrs. Verda R. Adams of Des Moines and Mrs. Mary G. Mesnier of Shenandoah.
He was stricken with a fatal disease in June, but was able to take an active part in celebration of his Golden wedding anniversary six weeks ago. When a young man he united with the Christian church at Peru but later transferred to the Methodist. He was a 32nd degree Mason, belonging to Hazel lodge, No. 573, and a charter member of the Odd Fellow’s lodge.
He is survived by his wife, nine children, 18 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, three half-sisters, one half-brother, and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 1, at two o’clock at the Methodist church in Peru. Rev. J. H. Machlan, Minister was in charge. Margaret Machlan was the soloist in the pallbearers were Grover A., W. Brian, Emery M., and Clair E. Fenimore, sons of the deceased, and James Street and Clyde Youmans, son-in-law’s. Masonic services were conducted at the church and cemetery. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
