He was the second son of a family of 11 children. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. There are at present one brother and one sister residing in California; one brother in Newton, Iowa and three sisters in Des Moines.
On Dec. 16, 1888 he was united in marriage to Sara Machet, who passed away in 1911. Two children were born to this marriage, namely Mrs. R. A. Carty of Los Angeles and Leo Miller of Dallas Center, Iowa. On June 24, 1913 he was married to Elizabeth Thompson, who preceded him in death as of Dec. 5, 1943. Besides his two children, his brother and sisters, there are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren to mourn his departure.
For several years, Mr. Miller and his wife of the second marriage lived in Dexter, and on March 28, 1937 he joined with his wife, the Dexter Methodist Church, coming from Adair with transfer from the Presbyterian Church there. In the days of his health and strength he was a faithful attender of his Church. For several years preceding his death he has been in poor health, and death came to him as a Godsent liberator. Peace over his memory.
Funeral services were held at the Dexter Methodist Church on Thursday, Jan. 13 conducted by the pastor. Mr. Robert Lawson sang two appropriate songs. Mrs. K. M. Chapler officiated at the organ and the following men served as pallbearers: Russell Gowdey, Wm. Moore, Charles Coulter, Wm. Blohm, James Adkins, Sr., and Harry Dunmire.
