Sylvia Porter Miller, 86, the daughter of Isaac John Gifford and Sarah Charity (Stone) of Gifford, was born January 22, 1903 in Peru where she spent many years of her life.
Later she moved to Chillicothe, Mo., and then on to Downs, Kan. where she lived the past 20 years of her life. She died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 29 in the Downs Nursing Center where she had lived for the past two years.
She was a member of the Solomon Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church in Downs, Kan.
Survivors include her son, Johnny G. Porter and wife, Marie of Osceola; her daughter, Frances A. Hogue and husband, Cleve of Irving, Texas; two grandchildren, Johnny J. Porter and wife, Bonnie of Osceola; and Judy Knipfel and husband, Raymond of Carlisle; and one great granddaughter, Ann Marie Porter of Osceola.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Thomas Porter, three sisters, and three brothers.
Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 1 at the Oakdale Cemetery in Downs. Her nephew, Dr. Burton D. Cox, Sr. had the service.
