Philip H. Miles, 81, of Van Meter died Oct. 7, 2007, at University Park Nursing & Rehabilitation in Des Moines following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Van Meter United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with family receiving friends from 6–8 p.m. Burial will be at Van Meter Cemetery.
Philip Miles was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Winterset to Blaine and Bess (Burd) Miles. Philip was a graduate of Winterset High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a 50-year resident of Van Meter where he resided with his devoted friend, George Goodson, who predeceased him.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Miles, and sisters Margaret Miles and Margery Boresi.
He is survived by a sister, Eileen Risher of Winterset, and a brother, Victor Miles of Sun City, Ariz.

Van MeterPhilip H. Miles, 81, of Van Meter, Iowa, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Des Moines, Iowa, following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. at the Van Meter United Methodist Church in Van Meter on Thursday, October 11, 2007. Burial will be in the Van Meter Cemetery at Van Meter. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Philip was born on January 19, 1926, in Winterset, Iowa to Blaine Miles and Bess Burd Miles. He graduated from Winterset High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
He had a lifelong devotion to flowers and gardening, raising and caring for different breeds of dogs, and collecting antiques. He was a 50 year resident of Van Meter where he resided with his devoted friend George Goodson, who predeceased him.
Phillip was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dan Miles; and sisters, Margaret Miles and Margery Boresi. He is survived by his sister, Eileen Risher of Winterset; brother, Victor Miles of Sun City, Arizona; his beloved dog, Poco Coco; and nine nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Iowa.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel and funeral services in Winterset.
