BERTHA MILES OF WINTERSET DIES

Was Member of Well-Known Madison County Family

Mrs. Bertha Miles of Winterset member of a well-known Madison county family, died Monday, Jan. 3 at a nursing home here. She was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Miles was the former Bertha Rebecca Crossley, daughter of John W. and Cynthia Jane Hardy Crossley. She was born in Crawford township, April 25, 1883, and spent her early life there.

She was married May 28, 1902 to Earnest Harvey Miles. His death occurred many years ago.

Mrs. Miles was a member of the United Brethren church and the Royal Neighbor lodge of America.

She is survived by a son, Milo M. Miles of Patterson; three daughters, Mrs. Neva C. Stewart of San Gabriel, Calif., Mrs. Frieda L. Handy of Price, Utah, and Mrs. Cora I. Alley of Winterset; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Everett K. Burham, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial will be made in Mt. Pelier cemetery near Patterson.
