October 30, 2024Glenn Kordick passed to eternal life on October 29, 2024, at Madison County Healthcare System in the care of EveryStep Hospice.
Glenn was born at home in Scott Township in Madison County, Iowa, on January 20, 1938, to parents Albert and Elizabeth (Bindel) Kordick. His mother died when he was two years old. He grew up with his father and four older siblings on a farm west of Peru. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard in 1959 where he served for five years earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He met the love of his life Kathleen Thurman the summer of 1957. They married November 12, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winterset. After living in various places around Winterset, Glenn bought a farm south of Winterset in Lincoln Township, where they raised their four kids. In addition to farming, Glenn spent 39 years working in the Madison County Engineers office as part of the secondary roads department.
Glenn was a lifelong active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. At mass he served as a eucharistic minister and an usher and led praying of the rosary before mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Over the years he also served on the parish council multiple times. He was also an instrumental member in the building of the new Catholic church, serving on the building and finance committees.
Glenn was an extremely hard worker his entire life. Planting and harvesting crops, raising livestock, working a fulltime job with the county all while raising a family. Even through all the work, he always prioritized fun. He loved playing cards with family and friends. He was also incredibly ornery, always enjoying every punchline or practical joke he could pull off.
When he retired from his day job and sold the farm, he and Kathleen moved into Winterset. He found a love of woodworking spending countless hours in his woodshop retreat. He and Kathleen would work together creating small wood houses and churches and Christmas decorations, some of which were sold at the local holiday bazaar. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and rooting for their success and happiness.
Glenn is survived by his wife Kathleen Kordick, his daughter Jill of Norwalk, IA; son Ted of Winterset and son Greg (Tim Billiter) of Pipersville, PA; three grandchildren Genevieve, Christopher and Andrew Kordick; sister Eileen Moore (Dean); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his son Tim; his parents Albert and Elizabeth; his sister Lorene Moore; his brothers Wayne Kordick, Earl Kordick, and Harold Kordick Zbierski; and his in-laws Everett and Mary Jane Thurman.
