Julia Koster, 56, of West Des Moines (Formerly of Winterset), passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at her home. Julie was born on March 17, 1968 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Donna (Doidge) Myers. She graduated from North Polk High School in 1986 and later attended Iowa State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising.
She was married to Paul Koster in 1993. Together they raised two wonderful children, Danielle and Derek. After spending several years working in the Winterset Community School District, Julie went back to school and earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from William Penn. She spent the last few years of her career as a middle school teacher for East Union Schools. She was a member of the Winterset VFW Auxiliary and active with the Above + Beyond Cancer organization. Julie enjoyed an active lifestyle and spent her time hiking, playing pickleball, bicycling, going on fishing trips, and spending time with family and friends.
Julie is survived by her two children, Danielle (Thomas) Koster, and Derek (Morgan) Koster; granddaughter, Adalynn Phalen; and sister, Jeanette (Eric) Sharp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents, John and Donna Myers; and brother, Jim Myers.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. A celebration of life will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2024 at the funeral home. A private family interment will take place in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
