James Evan Michael was born March 16, 1940 in Cache, Oklahoma to Rosemary Thomas. He lived with his Great Grandparents, Kalfus Clayton and Ella Nora Croswhite in Holly, Colorado during his early childhood years. Many happy memories were made in Holly and often shared with his family.

He graduated from Urbandale High School in 1958. On March 16, 1975 he married Cheri Mahan in Hopkins, Minnesota.

He spent most of his working years in the automotive field as a mechanic and service manager at car dealerships in Iowa, Arizona, Minnesota, Florida and Texas. He was employed at Honeywell in Phoenix, Arizona in the aerospace CNC lathe area making airplane parts. In 2003 he retired.
James was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was supportive of his children and grandchildren in their academics and careers. He encouraged them to love reading and music.

James died August 22, 2023 at Hospice of the Valley-Ryan House-in Phoenix, Arizona from complications of a stroke.

James was preceded in death by his mother, a son and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri, five children; James Dean Joel, Renee Joel Casper, Stacie Michael (Richard) Mosley of Des Moines, Iowa, Teresa Michael (Benjamin) Clement of Tucson, Arizona, and Victoria Michael (Emmanual) Chavez of Laveen, Arizona, a sister Kathy Pfaffee of Florida and a brother Donald (Kathy) of Missouri, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Interment at Montpelier Cemetery, Patterson, Iowa.
