George Samuel Buck, fondly known as "Sam," passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the age of 94. He was surrounded by his loving son, Howard, and daughter, Samia, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Sam was born on April 27, 1930, to Everett and Edna (Bright) Buck in Mount Ayr, Iowa. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and patriotism, which led him to serve his country proudly during the Korean War. In recognition of his heroic actions and gallantry, Sam was awarded the Silver Star, an honor bestowed upon him 50 years after his service.

On October 8, 1952, Sam married Patricia (Hoops). Their union was blessed with two children, Samia, born in 1954 while Sam was recovering from his war injuries at the Army Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Howard, born in 1960.

After his military service, Sam pursued his education at Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in Farm Operations. He later advanced his education, receiving a Master's in Banking from the University of Wisconsin. His career took him through roles at the USDA and private banking, where he made significant contributions with his knowledge and expertise.

Sam will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his charismatic personality and captivating smile. He was always willing to offer advice and lend a helping hand to those in need. As a proud founding member of the Outpost Harry Survivors Association and a life member of the VFW, Sam's legacy of service and camaraderie will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Sam's passions extended beyond his professional and military life. He had a deep love for his family, polka music, fishing, and any social gathering where he could engage with others. His fondness for sweet treats was well-known among family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Howard Buck; daughter, Samia (Randel) Wahlert; six grandchildren, Andrew (Amber) Apple, Nicholas (Lindsay) Apple, Megan (Doug) Corson, Jacob (Danielle) Buck, Kaitlyn Buck and Dustin (McKinzie) Johnston; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jack Corson, Aubrey, Camyden, and Emery Buck, and Ruger Apple. He is also survived by his siblings, Janice (Jerry) Rollins, MaryJane (Russ) Henry, and Everett Buck Jr.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Patricia and Enolia, and great-grandson Caleb.
