PIONEER WOMAN OF ATLANTIC DIES AT EARLY HOUR TODAY

Mrs. Mildred Blair Victim of Old Age, Came to County With Husband, Late W. E. Blair, in 1875

Mrs. Mildred Carter Blair, widow of William E. Blair, and one of the County’s pioneers, died at her home, 600 Spruce street, at 12:45 this morning of illness incident to old age. Mrs. Blair was in her eighty-second year. She had been ill for several weeks.

Cass county had been the home of Mrs. Blair since 1875, when she came her with her husband from Madison county, this state. They came to Iowa in 1860.

Mrs. Blair’s maiden name was Carter. She was a native of Virginia. She was married to Mr. Blair in Adair county, Kentucky, August 21, 1854.

On coming to Cass county Mr. and Mrs. Blair settled on a farm in Bear Grove township, where they lived until 1882. In that year they came to Atlantic, Mr. Blair being employed in the construction of the Cass county courthouse.

The death of Mr. Blair occurred on June 28, 1911. He was a victim of heart trouble.

Four grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive Mrs. Blair.

The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 at the home, the Rev. F. W. Simpson of the First Methodist church in charge. The body will be placed in the Mausoleum in Atlantic cemetery.
