John Joseph See was born April 26, 1962, in Des Moines, lowa,
to Kenneth and Joanne (Ford) See. The family later
moved to Ventura, Calif.; Redfield, lowa; and back to Des Moines, where John attended Tech High School. While at Tech, John was a
member of the JROTC and the drill and rifle teams, Blackman's Rifles and The Blue Knights. As part of these teams, John became an expert marksman, winning shooting competitions. John graduated from Tech in 1980, joining the US Marine Corps later that year. He served from 1980-1982, part of that time in Okinawa. Afterward, he became an electronics technician and worked in a variety of positions.

He retired in 2013 due to his health. John enjoyed reading, in particular science fiction and fantasy. He enjoyed TV programs such as Star Trek and The Walking Dead. He also enjoyed shows about military history.

John lived in Winterset from 2013 until he passed away March 18, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, MaryAnne Snyder; and his brothers-in-law, Terry Snyder and Daniel Kellogg. John is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Kellogg and Susan See; nephews, Michael Kellogg and Andrew Snyder (Lisa Kitner); niece, Renee Kellogg: grandnephew, Thomas Snyder; and grandniece, Mya Snyder.

John was cremated. He will be interred Friday, July 12, at 12:30, at the VA Cemetery at Van Meter. Friends and family are invited to attend.
