OBITUARY – MECKEMSON

Janette McRobert Thompson was born at Stranaer, Scotland, January 1, 1844 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Jessup, in Diagonal, Iowa, June 17, 1926.

When she was twelve years of age the family moved to Henderson county, Ill. There, on 28th of December, 1865, she was married to Wm. B. Meckemson. In 1867 they moved to Madison county, Iowa, and in 1897 that came to Redding, Iowa, which place has ever since been their home. Twelve children were born, ten of them reaching maturity and mark the mother’s departure. She had 31 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters and the husband who are yet alive.

Mrs. Meckemson accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior before leaving Scotland and ever since she has been loyal to Him. At Henderson, Ill., at Pilzer and Redding, Iowa, and she was a devoted member of the United Presbyterian church. For a period of twenty-nine years she had been a teacher in the bible school and leader of the missionary society at Redding. She was a good woman. Not only her children, but a whole community rise up “to call her blessed”. And being dead she yet speaketh.

Funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian Church at Redding Saturday morning June 19, conducted by the Rev. Walter J. Stewart of Oskaloosa, a former pastor. Interment was made in the Redding cemetery.
