OBITUARY

A beautiful sunset is only made possible by clouds, on which the rays are reflected; and so the passing of a lovely life into the Home beyond, sheds its glory even on the dark clouds of earthly sorrow, and beautifies the things which are left behind.

It is such a life that has gone out from us, and the death of William Brown Mekemson born August 28, 1842 near Biggsville, Ill., and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Jessup, Nov. 5, 1926, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 7 days. He was in poor health for several months but was not confined to his bed more than a week, peacefully passing away Friday morning at 11:30.

On December 28, 1865 Mr. Mekemson married Miss Janett Thomson, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary last December. To this union twelve children were born, four boys and eight girls, of which two sons died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Mekemson moved from Illinois to Madison county, Iowa, near Winterset, in 1867 and two Ringgold county, Iowa, near Redding in 1897, where they made their home until about a year ago, when they moved to Diagonal and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. A. E. Jessup.

When Mr. Mekemson was a young man he united with the United Presbyterian Church in South Henderson, Ill., and held his membership in that denomination all his life, being a very faithful and active member. He was also a member of the G. A. R. at Redding, Iowa, enlisted in Co. G., 84th Reg., Ill., August 1862, and served three years in the Civil war.

His wife preceded him in death only a few months, passing away on June 17, 1926. Since that time he has consistently grieved, not being able to realize her death but anxiously desiring to go where she was.

There is left to mourn his death two sons, eight daughters, 31 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, besides a large circle a very dear friends.

Short funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Jessup home after which the remains were taken to Redding where funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. W. Thompson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Diagonal, and assisted by Rev. Marts of Norfolk, Nebr., at the United Presbyterian Church of that place. Interment was made in the Redding Cemetery.
