Betty “Jayne” Smith, born December 10th, 1946, in Ames, Iowa, passed away at the Stuart Care Center, surrounded by her loving family February 20th, 2024, at the age of 77. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 15th at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

The third child of eight she is preceded in death by our parents Jay and Beulah (Varley) Nevitt and oldest sister Emily (Nevitt) Binning. She was lucky to find love twice and is preceded in death by both husbands, Lew Keele and Larry Smith.

She is survived by her 6 siblings: Mary (Bruce) Koboldt, Tom (Linda) Nevitt, Bob (Lorrie) Nevitt, Jim (Sherrie) Nevitt, Patti (Dick) Kenworthy, and Carol (Dan) Nordeen. She loved and cared for Lew’s four children, Theresa Adams, Kathi Keele, Tanya Field, and Scott Kelle. And loved being an aunt to her 16 nieces and nephews.

She will always be remembered for her caring heart, amazing cookies, and love for Jesus.
