Rusty Putnam, 44, of Afton, died Monday, February 19, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate the service. Burial will be private. Open visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be given at powersfh.com.

Rusty Michael Putnam was born on December 10, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was educated in Earlham schools and graduated with the class of 1997.

Rusty first started working for Wilco Services, and through the years he worked a variety of construction and labor jobs, including the Chestnut Sign Company. Rusty also worked for the Afton Co-op and in his free time he enjoyed performing for locals as a musician.

Rusty is survived by his mom and stepfather, Pam (Tim) Hunter of Afton; his son, Ryan (Allyson) Putnam of Winterset; his granddaughter, Octavia Putnam; his brother, Rob (Angela) Putnam of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; his stepbrother, Shane Hunter of Afton; his niece, Morgan Putnam; nephew, Tate Putnam; his step-grandmother, Dennise Hunter of West Des Moines; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Beverly Love; step-grandfather, Pat Hunter; and step niece, Kylie Hunter.
