Harry Walter Shifflett, 83, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Richardson, Texas. Harry was born February 13, 1929, to Scott and Mary Shifflett in Earlham, Iowa, the second to the youngest of five children. He grew up in Dexter, Iowa, attending elementary and high school at Dexter Public School, graduating in 1947.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Iowa State College in 1951. During his college years he was very active at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames, Iowa, where he was elected and ordained as an Elder. He went on to serve in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He met his wife, Betty Jean O’Keefe at First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff where they were married in December of 1953.

After his military service, Harry returned to Iowa with his wife where he continued his education at the University of Iowa, earning his Master’s Degree in Engineering. Moving to Dallas in 1956 began a long career with Texas Instruments where he was a loyal employee for 39 years. During these years, he also earned his MBA from SMU. At the time of his retirement in 1994, he had been traveling extensively around the world, overseeing quality control in the semi-conductor division.

A resident of Richardson, Texas for over 55 years, Harry was actively involved in the community serving as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Richardson and serving as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Richardson. He and his family later joined Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he was a member for 36 years. He enjoyed traveling around the world for both business and pleasure and had a passion for family genealogy.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and John Shifflett. Harry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty O’Keefe Shifflett along with his children: Karen and George Allen Jr. of Allen, Texas, and Scott and Julia Shifflett of Heath, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Lesslie Allen of Allen, Texas; Ashley Allen of Austin, Texas; and Caroline Shifflett of Heath, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Gealy of Gordon, Nebraska, and Esther Johnson of Camarillo, California; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas.
